Apple Blocks Java 1.7.0_11 for Safari/Firefox plugin. Workaround (admin privilege needed) - How can I get rid of Adobe once and for all on my Apple Mac?  I'm tired of having to go to the Apple Store to get my YouTube videos etc. back!

- thanks,.. that's really easy
- you can do this with one line of code too using plistbuddy... sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Set:JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum '1.6.0_37-b06-435'" /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist just change the version number to the desired number.
- Apple has recently posted a fix to this. Although, there's no telling when apple will again block java... since JRE 1.7.0_13 hasn't exactly fixed the security hole that apple is worried about. Note: 1) Java released JRE 1.7.0_13 on friday which addressed machines with OS 10.7 and 10.8. 2) But they did not fix the problem of Java being blocked on OS 10.6.x with JRE 1.6.0_37. As you mentioned, running the software update fixes this problem. Thanks for the update.
- SIMPLE FIX Go to the Apple menu and click the UPDATE SOFTWARE link and then update your java software. Worked for me easy. I think Apple could have done a better job in notifying users.
- Please remember to make a backup of that file. Java will probably be updating their version to JRE 1.7.0_12 soon which will allow you to use java correctly. When this happens you can restore the file: /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist Personally, this is more of a game both Firefox and Apple are playing a marketing game just to make it seem that they are protecting their customers.
- Thank you, this has solved our issue!
